Energy Efficiency

Home › About Composite Doors › Energy Efficiency

An old, not properly installed PVC front door or warped and cracked timber door can contribute significantly to air leakage and heat transfer in a home, resulting in energy losses and costly heating bills.

On the other hand, a Bowater Composite Door not only looks red hot, but offers outstanding levels of energy efficiency to keep your home snug and warm, no matter how cold it is outside.

Because, at the inner core of every one of our Composite Doors, lies an energy efficient, environmentally friendly, 100% CFC free, Polyurethane foam that offers the highest levels of thermal insulation. What’s more, it also keeps out unwanted street and traffic noises and not just by a little bit – by the equivalent of up to six times that of alternative products.

U Value 1.6 or lessPlus, every style of Bowater Composite Door in our extensive range has been tried and tested and complies with Building Regulations that were brought into effect in October 2010 and state that all doors must have a minimum U Value of 1.8. What’s a U value? (Don’t worry, lots of people ask that, you’re not alone!)  A U Value is quite simply a measure of the heat loss through a material – with the lower the U value number given indicating the higher performance of that material.

Every Bowater Composite door not only meets the minimum U Value standard of 1.8 set out in these important building regulations, but exceeds it, sometimes by a significant amount.  All styles achieve a U Value of 1.6 at the very most, with some styles boasting an impressive U Value of as little as just 1.0.

If you’d like to find out more about the U Values of Bowater Composite Doors, take a look at our door styles section where you’ll each style of Composite Door accompanied by its U Value.
